What is a Below 200 EMA pattern?

A stock trading below its 200-day EMA is considered structurally weak over the medium-to-long term. This is one of the most widely used trend filters on NSE and BSE, often used to avoid catching falling knives in a sustained downtrend.

MomentumIQ recalculates the 200-day EMA for all 2,827 NSE stocks every evening, so this screener always reflects the latest closing data — useful for spotting stocks in confirmed downtrends or tracking a potential base-building phase before a future reversal.

Does being below the 200 EMA mean a stock will keep falling?
No — it describes the current trend state, not a prediction. Stocks can and do reverse from below the 200 EMA, often after a Golden Cross or a basing period. It is a context filter, not a standalone signal.
Is this the same as a Death Cross?
No. This screen shows every stock currently below its 200 EMA regardless of when it fell below. A Death Cross specifically flags the moment the 50 EMA crosses below the 200 EMA — a fresh trend-change event.
Why would a trader look at stocks below their 200 EMA?
Some track this list to watch for early basing patterns or a future Golden Cross, while others use it to identify short-side or avoid-long candidates. Context and risk management matter more here than with trend-following setups.
How often is this list refreshed?
Every evening after NSE market close, using that session's closing price against the freshly recalculated 200-day EMA.
